Het leed dat tuigjes heet

Al voor Jelle er was had ik mijn 'hondenuitzet' in huis. Daarbij hoorde een halsbandje met bijpassend tuigje en riempje. Alles moest natuurlijk perfect zijn voor mijn beste vriend!

Nadat ik hem mee naar huis had genomen, kwam het moment om het halsbandje om te doen. Veel te groot :-).
Dus heeft mijn moeder op stel en sprong het kleinste halsbandje in de dierenwinkel gehaald. 
In het begin wisselde ik het halsbandje en tuigje af met wandelen.

Ik weet dan ook niet wanneer ik overgestapt ben naar de tuigjes.
Want ja, ik ben een tuigjes aanhanger.

In de nek zitten zoveel vitale delen (zenuwen, (slag)aders, luchtpijp, nekwervels, dat een tuigje me beter leek.
De wereld van tuigjes is zo divers en inmiddels hebben we een hele verzameling, maar echt de beste? Die hebben wij nog niet gevonden!!

Y-tuigen
Het tuigje loopt in een Y-vorm over de borst van de hond. 
Dit tuigje werd me aangeraden door de dierenarts en de fysiotherapuet.
Het Perfect Fit Harness bestaat uitdrie verschillende delen. 1 deel op de rug, 1 deel over de borst en 1 deel onder de buik. Het mooie van dit systeem is dat van iedere onderdeel een andere maat gebruikt kan worden en dat de verschillende onderdelen aangepast kunnen worden.

Maar Jelle heeft een nogal vooruitstekend borstbeen. Met als gevolg dat het tuigje op zijn borst vaak naar 1 kant gaat hangen en het hele tuigje daardoor zijn vorm verliest. Het ligt in de kast.....


H-tuigen
Dit tuigje gaat over de kop en wordt rondom de borst vastgeklikt.
Er loopt een stukje tuig over de borst en een stukje over de rug.
Ik zie deze vaak in allerlei mooie kleurtjes in de dierenwinkels liggen.

Maar ook hier heb ik het probleem van de uitstekende borst. Daarbij komt dan dat deze tuigjes bij Jelle vaak te dicht achter de voorpoten eindigen.
Op die hoogte zit ook vaak de sluiting en jawel, meneer loopt zijn oksels en ellebogen kapot. Dus....in de kast!

Instaptuigen
Een tuifgje waar de hond met beide voorpoten instapt, vervolgens wordt het geheel op de rug vastgeklikt. Razend populair onder teckelbezitters zijn de Treponti tuigjes. 
En dus kreeg Jelle een Treponti tuigje. Niet alle dierenwinkels mogen deze tuigjes verkopen. Onze vaaste dierenwinkel heeft ze dan ook niet en aangezien de dealer kaart niet helemaal up tot date was, moesten we een aantal kilometers rijden op zaterdagochtend.
We kwamen uit op een verstelbaar rood tuigje (Treponti Fibbia). Verstelbaar omdat hij in de ene maat geen adem meer kon halen en de andere echt te groot was.

Helaas merk ik ook dat dit tuigje regelmatig scheef hangt. Niets eens omdat meneer raar loopt te trekken, maar alsof het over hem heen 'glijdt'. Deze ligt nog niet in de kast omdat ik het materiaal waarvan het tuigje gemaakt is super handig schoonmaken is en deze ook snel droog is. Zeker in de zomer vind ik dat ideaal.

Borsttuigen
Een tuig met een horizontale band over de borst en een klikband achter de achterpoten. Weer iets achter de voorpoten :-(
Ik verknipte en vernaaide ooit een Hurtta tuig om het passend te maken, dat ging redelijk. Ook hat ik ook een tuig van Hunter, maar het grote rugstuk vond ik weer warm in de zomer.
Totdat ik enkele jaren geleden in Kirchberg liep en daar helemaal achteraf een ieniemienie hondenwinkeltje zag.
Deze mevrouw maakte tuigjes op maat! En zo kreeg Jelle twee borsttuigjes op maat, die prima zitten. Het jaar erop kocht ik er nog twee!

Het nadeel aan deze tuigjes is dat ze over de kop aan moeten. Er waren dagen bij dat Jelle daar echt geen zin in had, dan dook hij weg zodra ik met het tuig aan kwam.

Inmiddels zijn deze tuigjes hard aan het slijten en is hij eigenlijk aan nieuwe toe.
Maar helaas is deze dame verhuisd en kan ik niet zomaar meer een nieuw tuigje gaan passen.

Het ideale tuigje heb ik dus nog niet gevonden.....we zetten onze zoektocht voort. Welk tuigje gebruiken jullie voor je hond?

Before Jelle came, I had bought everything a (spoiled) dog needs.
I bought him a collar, harness and leash. Everything had to be perfect for my new furry friend.

After I had taken him home, I put on the collar. But this was to big :-)
My mom had to hurry and buy the smallest possible collar in the store.
In the beginning I was switching from harness to collar during walks.

I don't exactly now when I switched to harnesses. But now Jelle is wearing them every day.

In the neck there are so many vitals (nerves, veins, arteries, trachea, cervical vertebrae, I thought a harness was best. 
There are so many different harness and we have a whole collection already, but the best one? We haven't found it yet!

Y-harnesses
The harness is in an Y shape over chest and back of the dog.
This harness was recommended by the vet and the physical therapist.
Perfect Fit Harnesses have 3 parts, 1 on the back, 1 over the chest and 1 around the chest/belly. A nice feature of this system is that every part can be used in another size and can be adjusted.

But Jelle has an extending sternum, therefore the harness is pulling in one direction. The harness lays in the cabinet....

H-harnesses
This harness goes over the head and is tightened around the chest.
A part of the harness goes over the chest, another part over the back.
I see them often in all kind of bright colors in the local pet shop.

But here, the extending sternum is also a problem, The other problem is that these harnesses often end right behind the front paws. Especially when the claps is her, he wil hurt himself while walking. So...in the cabinet!!

Entry harnesses
A harness where the dog has to step in with both front paws. It will be clamped on the back. 
Dachshund lovers in the Netherlands are really enthusiastic about these harnesses. 
That's why Jelle got a Treponti harness as well.
Not all pet shops are allowed to sell these, and as the dealer website wasn't up tot date. We had to drive a few kilometers on a Saturday morning.
We bought the red Fibbia harness, which is adjustable. Because size 2 was too small and 3 was too big.

Unfortunately I noticed this harness is slides to one side. Not because Jelle is pulling but it looks like it really slides over his hair. 
This one isn't in the cabinet yet, because I love the material of which it is made of. Really easy to wash off and it dries in an instant. I like that during the summer!

Chest Harness
A harness with an horizontal band over the chest and a clamp behind the front paws.
Again something behind the paws...
I once remodeled a Hurtta harness, because it didn't fit him. I also bought a Hunter harness once, but this one looked so big and warm during summers.

Then, a few years ago, I was walking in Kirchberg Austria and saw a small pet shop.
This women was making harnesses made to meassure! I bought to harnesses for Jelle, and loved them. The next year I bought two extra.

The only disadvantage for me is the fact that we have to put them over the head. Some days Jelle will hide when I show him his harness.

These harnesses are pretty raveled out now and I would love to have some new ones. Unfortunately the lady moved and I can't go over and fit a new harness.

So, I haven't found the ideal harness yet.....we will continue our search.
